Ring Road Buffer Infrastructure Proposals

Roads, sewage treatment and water treatment plant siting within the existing ring road buffer.

Nagpur, Maharashtra · May 2024 – Jul 2024

Context

The land inside the buffer of Nagpur's existing ring road is where metropolitan growth lands first. Infrastructure proposals for that band have to align with the statutory plan already governing it — the Nagpur Metropolitan Area Development Plan 2012–2032 — rather than propose around it.

Mandate

Supporting preparation of infrastructure planning proposals for roads, Sewage Treatment Plants and Water Treatment Plants within the ring road buffer.

Approach

Siting decisions for STPs and WTPs are constrained long before they are optimised: by topography and drainage, by the existing network they must connect to, and by the land use the development plan has already allocated. Proposals were prepared to align with the Nagpur Metropolitan Area Development Plan 2012–2032.

Outcome

Infrastructure planning proposals supporting road, STP and WTP provision within the ring road buffer. This internship is where I first worked inside NMRDA, and it preceded the full-time planner role I hold there now.
